PET LICENSING AND DOG PARK PERMITS INFO:
License(s) are valid for one calendar year (January 1 - December 31). If purchased in November, the permit is valid from November through December 2026 (14 months). 

License fees are due by April 30, 2026.

You are required by law to annually license all pets six (6) months or older. On or after May 1, 2026, a $25 per pet late fee will apply.

In accordance with City Code, it is unlawful for an owner to harbor or house on their premises more than four (4) animals over the age of six (6) months. Licensing your pet improves the chances of having your animal returned to you should they become lost or run away. It also helps the City of West Des Moines ensure that pets are vaccinated.

Documentation for Proof of Spay/Neuter and Proof of Service Animal is required for a pet's initial registration only.

DOG PARK PERMIT INFO:
The Raccoon River Park Dog Park is a 10-acre fenced play area. The facility is open daily, year-round from 6:30 am until dusk and features areas for both large and small dogs. A dog park permit is required to visit this park.

A code system has been implemented for the Raccoon River Park Dog Park gate, enhancing security and ensuring that only dog park permit holders can access the park. Each permit holder will receive an email through the Barkpass system—sent to the email address used for the application—containing the gate code, and will be accessible on your Barkpass account at all times. Please allow up to 3 business days (72 hours) for approval.
